Mexico Spring Break 2014

Good morning friends and family!  Below you will find pictures of yesterday’s Jesus ministry.  Behind each picture is a story that our students are bringing home–we are very excited to bring home these stories of God’s greatness!

This morning our students woke up to spend time with Jesus and eat breakfast before heading to the market to shop.  This afternoon, the students will finish the week by doing Jesus ministry.  Please pray for divine encounters and that we finish strong in sharing the Gospel.  We will be going to flea markets and plazas this afternoon.

We are so thankful for the many partnerships with the churches and fellow believers we have developed.  Please pray for these churches and Anabel as they follow up with those who have come to know Christ.  The awe of God has transformed our students this week and Freedom has come to Nuevo Laredo through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus!

There is power is the name of Jesus to break every chain. How evident that was today as we ministered among great darkness.

Both teams presented the gospel to two groups at the one of the state prisons today. What an incredible opportunity! The chaplain we worked with had been in the prison as a prisoner for 15 years and is now ministering among the people she lived with for so long. What an amazing servant of the Lord. She is helping churches to be built in each section of the prison. Team Freedom first shared with a group of women. The Lord opened the door up for such intimate conversation afterwards. One woman we talked to remembered us from coming in 2012. She started to cry and share her heart. One of our team members she was talking to translated what she was saying. This team member knew very little Spanish but God interceded. She began to tell us that she was grateful to be in the prison because God has told her to preach the gospel. Several years ago her son passed away. He did not know Jesus. Her heart breaks because of that but she is prompted to speak of the Lord more and more. We were able to pray with and encourage her to continue preaching. Then we moved to the other side of the prison and presented to a group of men. Men from all angles saw and heard the gospel. Men were even hanging out of their windows so they could hear about the eternal freedom. This afternoon we engaged the culture, had a time of teaching, then ministered at a slum neighborhood and pulga (market). In the slum neighborhood we met a woman who asked for prayer for her son. She told us her son was in prison. We were able to share with her that he saw the same drama today as she just witness. The Lord’s plan never ceases to amaze us!

Team Victory had a chance to go to the plaza to share the Gospel.  After the drama, one of the teams went to a group that the Lord had laid on their heart.  They did not have a translator, so they were planning on sharing using a card to help them translate.  As they were walking, a man who spoke English struck up a conversation with the team.  Sensing a great opportunity, they asked the man if he would be willing to translate.  He said yes and off they went to share the Gospel.  As a result four men gave their hearts to Christ.

Tonight, both teams had the opportunity to worship with a local church.  The worship was refreshing and it was great to have some time to fellowship with other believers.  The team presented the drama and the Gospel was shared.  The team enjoyed barbacoa (barbeque) provided by the church afterwards.

It was an incredible day and these stories and pictures do not even begin to describe all that God has done.  You will hear more from your students when they return on Saturday!  Thank you for investing in them spiritually as they become young adults being willing witnesses.

Today was the day of salvation! Our hearts are so full from all the Lord did today! Thank you for your prayers! Keep them coming!

Team Freedom spent the morning in two plazas. The students engaged with people around and crowds started to form. One of our ministry teams talked with Rosey. When they first approached Rosey there was another woman beside her. As the group started explaining the drama and the gospel, the other woman stood up, shook her head, and said “No!”. Rosey stayed, she was yearning for more. She is a believer and the team was able to encouraged her greatly. We were able to connect her with the church and now she will be able to grow with the body of Christ!

This afternoon Team Freedom was able to share the gospel  at a middle school. God showed up! 200 students heard the greatest story ever told. The team showered those students with His love and His name was made great. Then we presented the drama at another plaza where many came to know Him! It was at this plaza where Chad challenged the students to give a spit. Jesus gave a spit for the blind man. He calls each and every one of us to get out of our pew and not be a sittite, but a spittite. Ask your student when they get home about this teaching, it’s powerful stuff! We finished our day of drama ministry and a large park where many new brothers and sisters in Christ were welcomed into the family. What a glorious Savior we serve!

Team Victory was also able to go to a middle school to share the Gospel.  Our students enjoyed engaging with the students as the Freedom Drama was presented and an opportunity to visit with them afterwards provided a great boost of encouragement to them.

One of the highlights for both teams  is partnering with the locals who serve alongside us as missionaries.  They have been a great source of encouragement as they have faithfully stood by our side in sharing the Gospel.  We had an opportunity to hear their stories and their life in Nuevo Laredo.  It has been an honor to serve alongside these men and women of God who love their country so much that they are willing to go themselves and make disciples of Jesus in Nuevo Laredo.

During the second drama for TeamVictory, one of the teams walked to a couple of guys at a taco cart at the flea market.  They shared their testimony and was presented the Gospel.  Their response was that they did not have a relationship with Jesus.  Many in this culture have a relationship with God, yet do not have a relationship with Jesus.  In these opportunities, we bring the Word through John 14:6 when Jesus says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through me.”   As the Gospel was shared, one of the men responded with tears in his eyes that he wanted to invite Jesus into his life.  What began as a taco stop for these two men, became an opportunity for them to meet the Bread of Life.

Family and friends, what an amazing group of young adults you have serving here in Nuevo Laredo.  The challenge has been great, but they have met the challenge with great enthusiasm and eagerness so that all may know that Jesus is Lord.  Please continue to pray for us.  Pray for divine encounters tomorrow as we do more Jesus ministry.

What an incredible first day of drama ministry! After a full morning of teaching, preparation, and fine tuning of the drama we set out for our first ministry sites. And oh how the Lord showed up!

While the team was fine tuning the drama, one of the teams had an opportunity to go and pray with people in the hospital.  Room after room was filled with people with illness, but many received spiritual healing.  We encountered a former pastor who is dying of cancer.  His wife had left him years ago.  Instead of turning to Jesus at that time, he turned to drugs and alcohol.  He was found last week passed out on the streets and today He handed his life over to Jesus.

Team Freedom went to a neighborhood and the teams went out door to door but nobody initially came to the drama.  As the drama started, about twenty five children came to see what was happening.  They sat down intently watching the Gospel as the death burial and resurrection was shared before their eyes.  After presenting the net, each of the children received Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Team Victory was in awe as they say children and adults come to know Christ.  On one occasion, one older gentleman, showed up after the drama was performed.  Initially, this man had groceries in his hand and had to get them home, but said he would come back and watch the drama.  He came too late to see the drama, but one of the teams went and asked him if he would like them to explain the Gospel.  The team explained the Gospel and he received Jesus as Lord.

Isn’t it amazing that God would use an ordinary group of young adults to bring the Good News.  The presence of God was overwhelming as people saw and heard the amazing news that they can be rescued through a Savior who gave all so that they would not have to endure a wrath destined to send them to an eternity separated from God.  The Old Has Gone…The New Has Come

The teams have done great today in preparation for ministry to start tomorrow in Nuevo Laredo.  Please pray for the teams as they will finish up training in the morning and then start going to different sites around the city.  Many opportunities will be presented this week to share Jesus in plazas, villages, prisons, and churches.  Pray for a good nights rest tonight.

Hello friends and family!  We arrived in Nuevo Laredo last night and all are well and excited to minister to the people.  We arrived  and got unpacked ready to start a great week.  We are thankful for the conversations and unity that the Lord has already built on our teams through our van ride yesterday.

This morning we had a great breakfast and it was followed by a great challenge by Chad Thompson.  We joined our friends at church this morning.  Some of our alumni joined the students of the church for Bible study while those who are new were challenged to lay down their adolescence through Walker’s teaching and take up their purpose of being young adults who God has called to a significant task and divine purpose.

The students are now training for the Freedom drama after having a delicious meal of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and chips–the staple for the week during lunchtime.

Please pray for our teams today as they learn the drama.  We have a great group that is willing to go and share the Good News of Jesus this week.

This week is all about Mark 1:17 when Jesus said, “Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men!”  Our teams have taken the first step of obedience by saying yes to be here in Nuevo Laredo.  As a result, Jesus is going to transform them as they learn how to follow Him this week.  He is going to not just do a work through them as they share the Gospel, but He is going to do a work in them!
